Antique Openwork Brass Bar Pin with Purple Stone

$ 20.00

From the early 20th century comes this sweet bar pin in lacy brass openwork. A faceted oval purple glass stone occupies the center, surrounded by loops of textured brass. It measures about 2-3/8 inches wide and 3/4 inch tall. A lady would have worn a pin like this across a high collar, or maybe to secure a lace ruffle down the front of her dress.

Condition-wise, it does show some wear, but it's an antique after all. The pin stem is bent and the pin doesn't rest securely in the C clasp - this brooch probably predates the invention of safety catches, so if you're going to wear it, you'll want to secure it with an earnut. It's a lovely piece, though, for anyone who loves the feminine styles of the Edwardian era and a great way to start an antique jewelry collection!
