A pair of duck or goose mini planters marked Made in Occupied Japan with black heads, green necks and tails, and yellow bodies, on blue bases. Larger bird measures approximately 7 x 3 x 5-3/4 inches, with a 2-1/2 x 1-1/2 inch planter opening. Smaller bird measures about 4 x 1-3/4 x 3-1/4 inches, and its opening is about 1-1/2 x 1 inch. Both planters are marked Made in Occupied Japan, which dates them to the period 1945-1952, and both have a mark like an upside-down U, which we assume is the mark of the pottery that made them. We don't have any identifying information on that pottery. In very good vintage condition, with some very light crazing visible on light-colored areas. The smaller bird has some flaws in the glaze on the neck; we think these were missed spots when the figures were hand painted. No cracks or chips. It's unusual to find these birds as a pair - a real find for any collector of Occupied Japan ceramics or figural planters!
